RIGA CELEBRATES THE 815TH ANNIVERSARY OF RIGA PORT!
Gallery Park Hotel & SPA and Riga City Council welcomes the residents and visitors of Riga to visit the many events included in the Riga City Festival programm on August 14–16. This year, the Festival takes place in honour of the 815th Anniversary of Riga Port.
The Riga City Festival opens on August 14 with a concert titled “Around the World in 8150 Seconds”, which is also devoted to the theme of the port. At the Vērmanes Garden stage, the performance will last two hours and 15 minutes (135 minutes or 8150 seconds). The audience will have the opportunity to travel throughout the largest ports of the world in their minds, while listening to popular melodies from different countries. The “Riga” Professional Brass Band, together with various soloists, invites listeners to participate in this trip.
On August 15 during the Port Festival, a traditional Street Music Day will take place in Riga. In the carnival atmosphere that accompanies the “Canal Regatta” competition, pedal boats will try to win the Freeport of Riga cup, and a 24-hour basketball tournament “Battle of the Riverbanks” will also take place in the square by the Latvian National Opera.
On August 16, as well as events the largest venues – the 11th November Embankment, Vermanes Garden and Spīķeri square – a concert by the rock band “Bi-2” will take place on the Grand stage at Mežaparks.
Of course, it is impossible to imagine the Festival without tasting the most delicious dishes of Riga. Therefore, cafeterias and restaurants will serve hungry festival-goers at the newly opened “Riga Restaurant Festival” in Spīķeri Square.
Everyone is welcome to enjoy the pleasure of shopping at the “Throughout the Ages of Riga Port” market, featuring old-fashioned Latvian peasants and craftsmen, and don’t miss traveling to the Latgalian market in the Jēkabs Square.
