`Rīga Festival 2014`

Taking place at Rīga Festival 2014 will be the widest variety of cultural and sporting events over the course of three days from August 15th to 17th.

Festival programme

The Festival will begin Friday evening, August 15th, in Vērmanes garden, where the professional brass orchestra Rīga and composer Raimonds Pauls will be dedicating a concert to their native city. Saturday, August 16th, appearing at the open—air stage at Vērmanes garden will be secondary—school theatre actors, percussionists and guests from Taiwan and the Netherlands. In the evening listeners will be enchanted by Dixie Land music with its retro melodies, as well as songs performed by actors from the Valmiera Drama Theatre.

On 11th November embankment on Saturday, August 16th, the programme will begin with vintage car and motorcycle shows, whilst later there will be music of various styles — from ethno and folk metal to jazz. The highlight of the programme will be the original acrobat theatre Strange Fruits from Australia — who like in a dream will rise to the sky to dance above the heads of the spectators.

On August 16th and 17th Rīga will be trading on Dome Square, singing along with street musicians, and remembering its youth, listening to ancient music at St. Peter's Church and Dome Garden. Between Rīga's ancient Middle—Age arcs a bridge between Latvia and Portugal will be built by performers of fado music. In turn, with greetings to Rīga from the bridges of Prague will be Prague's street theatre, performing at Town Hall, Vērmanes garden and Dome Square.

The Rīga Festival 2014 programme will be supplemented with Rīga's annual Port Festival — spectators will be entertained by the traditional 24—hour Battle of the Riverbanks basketball tournament, the Canal Regatta paddleboat competition and Street Music Day. On Saturday, August 16th, as the grand finale, above the Daugava colourful fire flowers will be in full bloom in the form of a Festival fireworks display.

On Sunday, August 17th, the festival locations will be hosting special attractions and entertainment for the joy of the littlest Rigans. Families will be especially welcome at the creative workshop at 11th November embankment, in Vērmanes garden, on Lucavsala, as well as elsewhere.

Let's celebrate the festival, let’s celebrate Rīga!
